A charming miniature egg pendant, beautifully decorated with a delicate hand-painted scene depicting two children — a young boy and a girl dressed in traditional clothing. Their tender, affectionate interaction gives this tiny jewel a wonderfully nostalgic character, capturing the innocence and warmth of childhood.

The pendant features a small gold suspension loop and a gold mounting ring, while the egg-shaped body is made of an as-yet unidentified material. It may be porcelain, bone, or another material; its exact composition has not been established. The miniature painting is particularly delightful, with soft colors and carefully rendered details that bring the little figures to life.

The gold fitting bears faintly legible hallmarks, including what appears to be the Russian Imperial 56 zolotnik gold standard, equivalent to 14-karat gold, and the Imperial double-headed eagle. The maker's mark is extremely difficult to distinguish. Based on our interpretation of the faint impression, it may be the mark of Andrei Adler, a St. Petersburg goldsmith associated with the Fabergé tradition. This attribution is tentative, as the hallmarks are not sufficiently clear for a definitive identification.

An especially interesting aspect of this pendant is its visual connection to illustrated greeting cards of Imperial Russia. The final photographs show period Easter and Christmas postcards depicting children in traditional Russian dress, with a similar sentimental style and charming attention to detail. These images provide a glimpse into the visual culture of the period and offer a lovely artistic comparison with the miniature scene painted on the egg.

A delightful and unusual example of early 20th-century Russian decorative jewelry, this little pendant combines gold craftsmanship, miniature hand-painted artistry, and a touching glimpse into the childhood imagery of Imperial Russia.
